Exam Overview
The Unit 1 Exam will focus on all of the Areas of Study from the past semester. It is designed to test both your skills and your knowledge. The following areas of study are covered in the exam:
The exam will comprise of three sections:
Note: The exam is important for all students and you should treat it as such. Your final VCE assessment is in examination form and you must begin practicing. If you have not received an S for one of your SACs so far this year the Unit 2 exam is a way to redeem your work.
The Unit 1 Exam will focus on all of the Areas of Study from the past semester. It is designed to test both your skills and your knowledge. The following areas of study are covered in the exam:
- Area of Study 1 The Cold War: Focusing on the events and circumstances that led to the rise of the Nazi party in 1920s Germany
- Area of Study 2 Movements of people: Focusing on how the Nazi party spread its Fascist ideology and entrenched its control of the state
- Area of Study 3 Challenges for the new millennium: Focusing on art and design movements, their influences, their ideas and their art/design
The exam will comprise of three sections:
- Section 1: Short answer questions. You will be asked to answer a number of questions for each Area of Study covered in this Unit.
- Section 2: Picture analysis. You will be asked to analyse a piece of propaganda drawn from Area of Study 1
- Section 3: Extended response. You will be asked to write an extended response, using correct essay structure, in answer to a prompt drawn from Area of Study 2

In section 2 you will be asked to write a summary analysis of a piece of propaganda from the topics that we covered in Area of Study 1. You should make sure you plan out your analysis by annotating the image and explaining the links between the image and
Section 3
In section 3 you will be asked to write an extended response answer to a prompt (you will have a choice of two). It is important that your extended response follows correct essay structure. This means having an introduction that has a clear contention and that clearly lays out the paragraph points. Paragraphs that have clear topic sentences that link to your contention and use relevant evidence.
